You know that really annoying story that always does the rounds about how Cristiano Ronaldo said Paul Scholes could always hit a tree in Manchester even if he were in Australia, yeah? Well, I’m pretty certain Lukas Podolski could do the same thing and, in turn, uproot the tree, also – Alan Partridge ‘foot like a traction engine’ quote.

Many Arsenal fans felt that our World Cup winner proved a major point to Arsene Wenger on Tuesday night when he bagged a brace against Galatasaray – including a thunderous drive after just three minutes – and there now seems to be an agreement amongst a lot of the Arsenal faithful that Lukas Podolski will naturally start against Newcastle United on Saturday.

He won’t, though; I’m almost certain about that.

The former Bayern Munich man showed the attributes that we all know he has – but Arsene Wenger also knows them – so the fact that the striker notched a couple of goals, with one being an almost cliche Podolski goal, won’t have surprised, Arsene.

Podolski’s stock has dropped considerably at Arsenal, with the German only starting due to the fact Olivier Giroud was ineligible, Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck didn’t travel, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was moved into central midfield and Theo Walcott remains injured – oh, and the game was a pointless one.

There’s almost something ironic in the timings of Podolski’s goals on Tuesday, one at the beginning and one right at the end and basically nothing in the middle; he was almost invinsible in that second-half and, as always, didn’t track back which effected the team’s balance.

For me, Podolski screams Andrei Arshavin; against lesser opposition were work-rate doesn’t need to be as intense, then, yep, play him; he will bang in a goal or two. However, against a team in the top half of the Premier League or important cup matches, don’t expect to see Podolski helping the cause too much.

He adds nothing to the team that’s why he dosent start he’s lazy. Why do you always think he should start who does he start ahead of Sanchez?Ox? Welbeck? Giroud no chance he dosent do 1/8 of the work they do!
