If reports are to be believed, David Ospina is on his way out of Arsenal after the club agreed a €5million bid from Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Although the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea surely would spell the end of Ospina’s days as Arsenal’s number one keeper, the news of his departure comes as a surprise to many with the Colombian impressing greatly for club and country.

He hardly put a foot wrong since beating out Szczesny for a place in the XI at Arsenal (aside from a few mistakes on here and there, particularly on the last day of the season) and has carried over that form into the Copa America. He was absolutely brilliant against Argentina in the quarterfinals, keeping his side alive with some fantastic reflex saves.

He ultimately couldn’t stop his side from going down in penalties, but if not for his heroics, they would have been dead and buried long before. He is too good for Arsenal to let go?

Or is he perhaps he is too good to sit on the bench which is in fact why Arsenal is letting him go? It is curious one this, and one that reeks of misfortune. Nobody has any qualms with Petr Cech replacing him between the sticks, but for me to release him after just one season, and a vastly impressive season at that, seems like a right kick in the teeth.

You would be inclined to think it is Szczesny who should shown the exit door, as he is the third choice at the moment. I personally would loan the Pole for a season or two and then assess his progress when he returns. At that point I would make a decision between him and Ospina for who stays and who goes.

What do you think gooners? Has Ospina been hard done by at Arsenal?

not really. 2 mistakes that i can think of – goals conceded against swansea and the 3rd against monaco which was more to do with kamikaze defending than anything else. if he was younger i’d sooner have between the sticks than the pole. too good to be a number 2 but in order to progress we need to be ruthless and unfortunately he has to be the fall guy. he’ll become a very good keeper for someone else alas not us. wenger always seems to subscribe to the “too good not to be playing” theory and i doubt he will make it difficult for him to leave the club.

Ospina denied the three most dangerous forwards in the world at this time: Neymar, Aguero and Messi. I would say that he is better than Cech, but let them fight it out. I feel he has been unfairly treated and deserves to continue being number One.

I think letting him go is a bad idea I think having check as first choice is cool but ospina can always come in some times and then he takes FA cup and caring cup too he gets time when check has enough game or when he is preparing for champion league with thight schedule like it usually comes so dat we don’t have fatigue in the squad besides if anything happens that we miss cech in champions league are we suppose to go with inexperinced czesny as we hope to get as far as finals? Thanks

Has been totally screwed over – but in the interest of the club – Cech is one of the best keepers in the world. Ospina was fine, but fine just isn’t good enough if world class comes in.
