Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has given his views on his old club’s chances for silverware this season.

The Gunners’ all-time leading goalscorer is back training with the team in MLS close season, and believes they are in good shape for silverware this year.

He said: “I think they can do it, I don’t think it’s the only chance they’ve had to grab the title, I think they’re always not far from it.

“It will be a great thing for the club if they can bring back some silverware, especially for the fans. I do think they can do it with the style of football they play.

“They have some big games soon, I think near the end of the season with Man United, that will be a decisive one.”

As for the Champions League, Arsenal face a difficult tie against another of Henry’s old clubs Barcelona.

The Frenchman says it was difficult playing for Barca against Arsenal last season, and will now be happy to be able to cheer on Arsène Wenger’s team.

He said: “I played for Barcelona against Arsenal last year and I was kind of in a weird position, because obviously I wanted Barcelona to win because I was there, but playing against Arsenal was killing me in a way.

“I’m still talking to everybody at Barcelona, and I’m training here at Arsenal. As an Arsenal fan I want them to win, but I have a lot of friends at Barcelona, so it’s kind of difficult.”

With Arsenal facing the Catalan giants, questions over Cesc Fabregas’ future have inevitably surfaced, as the midfielder looked close to quitting Arsenal for the Nou Camp in the summer.

Henry dealt with similar speculation during his time in North London, but hopes the Spaniard will stay at the Emirates.

He added: “That’s the way it is when your team is not performing well. Cesc is from Spain so it’ll be his decision.

“As an Arsenal fan, I want him to stay here. Right now he’s here and you can see his commitment when he plays for the club.”
