The case of Yaya Sanogo is a curious one. Here lies a player with supreme physical and athletic capabilities, but just falls short in front of goal. This lad has nearly everything to blossom into a top drawer striker; abundant pace and strength, good movement, and a fantastic leap and aerial ability.

Unfortunately the one thing he lacks is the most vital attribute for a forward to have, and that is finishing.

The lad’s record in front of goal is dreadful to put it mildly, and he may find himself in a stick situation this summer. Wenger showed extreme faith in him since his arrival in 2013, gifting him chance after chance in the side. Despite his poor return, he showed real promise and was rewarded with more opportunities.

The boss’ patience seemingly ran out last season though, and Sanogo dropped lower and lower in the pecking order. He was eventually shipped out on loan to Crystal Palace but struggled to establish himself at Selhurt Park.

He now returns to Arsenal as the fourth or fifth choice centre forward (depending on where you place Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez), and with wide reports of Wenger’s pursuit of another striker, Sanogo’s days could well be limited.

Not to mention young Akpom, who looks to be the more polished player of the two and may get a look in ahead of Sanogo. The natural inclination may be to loan him out once more, to afford him the chance to play and gain some confidence, but there is always the question of where in the Arsenal set up he fits in.

The likes of Giroud, Welbeck, Walcott, and Sanchez, are still just 28, 24, 26, and 25 respectively and will be the first choices for years to come. Should Sanogo go on loan, he will still find himself in the same situation upon his return.

Reports have surface linking Sanogo with a return to his homeland France on loan with Lille, and something tells me a permanent move could be on the horizon soon. What do you think gooners? Should Sanogo get another chance at Arsenal or is his time up?

He should get another chance. Can’t help but feeling the guy just needs some luck and he will be a 20 goal a season striker!
