If reports are to be believed, Mezut Ozil wants out of Arsenal after enduring an indifferent start in North London. If these same reports are to be believed, many suitors are already lining up with bids with Bayern Munich at the forefront. These rumours also point to Ozil’s international teammate and long term target Julian Draxler as his replacement.

I don’t believe these reports. It is much too early to pull the plug on Ozil. He hasn’t yet been able to find his form, but releasing him so soon would be incredibly impulsive.

For argument’s sake however, Draxler would be the outstanding like for like candidate should Ozil indeed be on his way out of the club. I can’t think of many more ready made replacements (who would be attainable) at this current time. Draxler is a wonderfully gifted footballer and a part of me wants to say that he may be more suited to the rough and tumble of the Premier League than Ozil.

He doesn’t possess the passing ability and eye sight that Ozil has, but he makes up for it in pace, athleticism and dynamic running. He is just as eager to run onto the end of a ball as he is to pass, so he will slot into our fluid style of play easily. His week foot is substantially better than Ozil’s as well and he loves to have a shot on goal. He can also play as a central striker if need be, so he would represent a massive coup.

At his age, 21 year old Draxler would be a long term option (especially since Ozil is just 25) and the player has already expressed his desire to leave Schalke for a bigger club. As far as capable play makers go, who are available for transfer, Draxler is the glaring option. Honorable mention goes out to the likes of Roma’s Miralem Pjanic, Sevilla’s Ever Banega, and Everton’s Ross Barkeley but none are known to be unhappy at their clubs while Barkeley in particular would command an astronomical sum (being English and playing for a top five club).

The likes of Muller, Marchisio, etc… (insert any other massive name here) would be difficult to attain for a number of reasons and incredibly expensive (Draxler would be too, but the money from Ozil’s sale would recoup most of it). That being said, Draxler is the outstanding option.
