Sassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi says he is keen on playing in the Premier League but his club have yet to receive a bid that would have allowed him to leave for an English team.

The centre back was heavily linked with Leicester City when Claudio Ranieri was manager, and he revealed that the Italian had contacted him on three separate occasions about coming to England. No switch materialised but Acerbi has said he would consider a move to England if a team like Arsenal come calling and they satisfy Sassuolo’s demands:

“It was a good chance. The charm of the Premier League, I would play for the Champions. Ranieri sounded me out three times and I said: ‘If the Sassuolo opens the door, I come willingly’. “

“Otherwise nothing, I did not want to clash in January with a club to which I just have so much gratitude. If it were Arsenal, who knows … Now I do not know if the same chance will happen again. I do not get to think until June and it is not guaranteed that I leave Sassuolo.”

There have been no links between the Gunners and Acerbi in recent months but it seems the prospect of playing for Arsenal in the Premier League seems to be very attractive to the 29 year old. Whether Arsene Wenger is interested in the Italian international, it seems unlikely, considering a contract extension was offered to Per Mertesacker in January which keeps the German at the club beyond the end of the season.
