Roma will not attempt to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny permanently in the summer, according to Il Messaggero (via calciomercato.com).

The Italian newspaper report that the 26 year old will be allowed to return to the Emirates in the summer after spending two years on loan in Italy.

The performances of the Polish international are not the issue for the Serie A side. He has been the club’s regular first choice goalkeeper over the past two years. The Italian club have however decided against making a bid in the summer because of Arsenal’s demands.

Roma reportedly have a €16million purchase option on the keeper but are said to be keen on investing in other areas of the team. They also they believe they already have a capable replacement in Szczesny’s current understudy Alisson.

The Brazilian signed from Internacional last February but has failed to displace the Pole from the number one spot since his arrival with both head coach’s Rudi Garcia and Luciano Spalletti preferring the Arsenal stopper.
