Club America manager Ricardo La Volpe believes that forward Diego Lainez could be a potential future star, and has backed the 16 year old to play for a club like Arsenal in the not too distant future.

Lainez was only given his debut against Santos Laguna in the Mexican Cup last month but La Volpe feels the player is at a similar development stage to when Joel Campbell moved to the Gunners in 2011.

La Volpe was manager of Costa Rica when Campbell made his breakthrough and he feels it maybe only a couple of years before Lainez makes a similar switch to Europe. Speaking to Futbol Picante (via ESPN Argentina) he said:

“I know that Europe and all the people who work [there] are already seeing him. He is 16 years old and at 18 I do not know if he could go to an Arsenal. It happened to me with Campbell in Costa Rica and after six months he was already at Arsenal.”

“This type of player is not easy to find, very spicy, very good management, good technique and has an impressive character.”

Campbell is still an Arsenal player despite spending most of his time at the Gunners out on loan at other clubs. He is currently playing in Portugal for Sporting. Whether Lainez will make the same journey to London from central America, we will have to wait and see.
