Arsenal are hot on the trail of “the next David Villa,” in the form of Sporting Gijon youngster Carlos Castro. The 19 year old Spaniard has impressed for his club, scoring 7 goals in 19 matches. Arsenal have reportedly already made an approach according to some publications, with Wenger looking to prize the youngster to North London.

The player has been likened with his legendary compatriot due to his similar movement in and around the box and clinical finishing ability. He has represented his country at the U-21 level as well and is tipped for a bright future.

Gijon are reportedly resigned to losing the player, with reports also linking Benfica as an interested party. It is said that a small fee would be enough to prize the player from the second division side. Castro has seen his stock rise dramatically this season, and would be one of the main reasons the club achieve promotion (if they are to accomplish this feat).

Castro is one of the handful of forwards that have been linked with Arsenal recently, so it seems we are set to see some movement from Wenger come summer time. I’m not particularly sold on this rumour just yet though, as Arsenal possess their own talented youngster in the form of Chuba Akpom.

It will be interesting to see how this one develops.

One response to “Likened to David Villa, who is the star Arsenal are tracking?”

  1. EMERSON says:

Chuba Akpom should be given more playingtime, so it would not develop into the same senario like Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne at Chelsea that were never given enough playing time to show their full potential.
