It was only a matter of time before the Mourinho and Wenger feud picked back up, and more fittingly, only a matter of time before Mourinho reignited the war of words. The man can’t resist a dig at Arsenal can he? He was at it again today, claiming the amount of money Arsenal have spent on transfers over the past few seasons makes them “more than ready to be a title contender.”

He said earlier that all of Chelsea’s title rivals have resorted to buying the title, but stopped short of singling anyone out. He took it a step further in typical Mourinho fashion, pointing the finger at Arsenal and the hefty investments spent on players over the past few summers.

Speaking to the Guardian, as reported by Sky Sports, he had this to say:

“If you add up the amounts clubs have spent in the last three or four years I think maybe you will find a surprise.”

“If you put Ozil plus Alexis Sanchez, plus Chambers, plus Debuchy, you will find a surprise. It’s a fantastic squad with good players, fantastic goalkeeper, they are more than ready to be a title contenders.”

“Get a calculator. That is the easiest thing, it leaves no space for speculation. If you want to be honest, objective and pragmatic it is the easiest job for a manager to do.”

A bit hypocritical from a Chelsea manager to say, with all of their titles being funded by a certain Mr. Abramovich. A brilliant graphical breakdown of both club’s spending over the past few seasons has been provided by Sky Sports which clearly shows Chelsea have outspent Arsenal by a little less than two thirds!

This is nothing more than a barb aimed to get under Wenger’s skin, and Mourinho of course couldn’t have picked a better time with the two sides set to clash this Sunday. Stay tuned in to Arsenal-Mania for Wenger’s response shortly, with the boss as usual unperturbed by Jose’s remarks.
