Ribery: I have made my choice

Marseille's Frank Ribery has reportedly told his club that he has no intention of playing for them next season, despite signing a new four-year deal.

The French winger had an impressive World Cup, and a host of English clubs were lining up for his signature.

But that interest died down last month when Ribery signed a new four-year deal at Marseille.

In a bizarre twist of events, Ribery has now said that he has no intention of playing for Marseille and wants a move away, indicating as well that he has chosen the club he wants to go to, and that both clubs now have to come to an agreement.

Ribery said: "My wish is to leave Marseille.

"I want to play in the Champions League.

"The Marseille club officials know where I want to go and the club I wish to sign for also know it.

"My choice is made and I will not go back.

"Now both clubs have to reach an agreement."

Many press reports are saying that Arsenal will only allow José Antonio Reyes to leave for Real Madrid if Arsenal can secure Ribery's signature.

It remains to be seen whether the club Ribery spoke off is indeed Arsenal.

To be honest I didn't find Ribery that impressive at the world cup (haven't seen him play otherwise), and it sounds like he doesn't really have a very good attitude here.

Ribery for Reyes would be excellent for everyone concerned, in my opinion. However, I don't believe there's enough time for such a deal to be closed prior to this week's Champions' League qualifier. I simply can't see Wenger risking our participation in the Champions' League by not playing Reyes - we are already without Henry, Cole, Ljunberg, Clichy, Senderos, Lehman, Diaby... I just can't see Wenger believing that the sum benefit of swapping Reyes for Ribery is worth risking Champions' League qualification for. Real should have got the wheels in motion a couple of weeks earlier if they were serious.
