Arsenal alerted to Buffon availability

According to press reports, Arsenal have been alerted to Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon's availability.

Buffon's agent has indicated that the Turin club won't stop any proposed transfer for their goalkeeper if he indicates he wants to move.

Match-fixing penalties have seen Juventus fall from their former glory and they have been forced to sell their more prized assets, with Lillian Thuram, Gianluca Zambrotta and Patrick Vieira leaving the club in the summer.

Buffon's agent said: "The relationship between us and Juventus is so friendly that I am sure that if Gigi were to decide that he wants to move to another club, the management would consider this possibility serenely.

"In any case, I don't see any movements in the near future. What I can say is that we have scheduled a date to meet and talk with the club's management.

"We need to evaluate Juve's future, as well as Gigi's. He is only asking for a top-level team - the current one is strong but only in Serie B.

"To return to be as competitive as in the past, Juve need to sign another five or six quality players."
