Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says Francis Coquelin is the first name on his teamsheet at the moment, and as praised his teammate for the understated role he plays in the side. Coquelin has become a bit of an unsung hero in the side, doing the midfield dirty work without a fuss.

While the likes of Giroud and Sanchez are scoring the goals making the headlines, Chamberlain was sure to show his appreciation for his midfield colleague Coquelin. He had this to say about his teammate:

“At the moment he’s the first person I’d put on my teamsheet.”

“When I’m playing alongside Francis, there’s nobody better to play with.”

Chamberlain was sure to point out that Coquelin is much more than just a tough tackling destroyer, saying Francis is also very good in possession and with the ball at his feet.

“He brings that security and confidence that you have someone like that who can pick the ball up, intercept balls that should never be intercepted, win tackles that you don’t think he can win, and he’s also a quality player on the ball as well.”

“You can never take away his technical ability and that goes unnoticed at times because he just does his job, but he’s probably one of the best technicians in our side as well.”

“I love watching him play and it’s not often that you tend to say that.”

Good on Alex to shine some light on Coquelin. The Frenchman’s performances tend to go unnoticed at times, so it is nice his teammates acknowledge his work.
