Francesc Fabregas, No. 4

Profile

Francesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas has certainly repaid the faith shown to him by his manager with some stellar displays in the heart of Arsenal's midfield. Still only a teenager, Cesc's vision, passing and movement are a class apart. If all goes to plan, he is a future Arsenal captain.

Following the departure of Patrick Vieira to Juventus last summer, everybody thought Arsène Wenger would sign another central midfielder. He didn't, instead he had faith in his young charges, Fabregas in particular, and the rest is history.

The young Spaniard, at only 18, showed us all that he is already one of the most important players in the team, playing a crucial part in our run to the Champions League final with his creativity (and even the occasional goal) from midfield. In this run he returned to Spain to face boyhood rivals Real Madrid, and against the likes of Zidane, Beckham and Gravesen, was indisputably the best midfielder on display.

In the next round he truly showed Arsenal fans there was no need to miss Vieira, as he outclassed the Juventus midfield with a goal and an assist to send Arsenal into the semi-finals of Europe's top competition for the first time.

Showing maturity beyond his years, Cesc has been rewarded with the number 4 shirt for next season, the number of his hero Guardiola, and also the number of former teammate Vieira. And like his former captain, his performances have attracted interest from the likes of Real Madrid over the summer. Let them dream.
