Manuel Almunia, No. 1

Profile

Manuel Almunia

The little known Spaniard came to Arsenal after spending a year on loan at Spanish club Albacete Balompié from Celta de Vigo.

Was used as first choice goalkeeper for a large portion of last season, as Jens Lehmann suffered from poor form and confidence. Unfortunately for Almunia, his own displays were hardly awe-inspiring either, with a series of costly gaffes ensuring Lehmann was re-installed as number one by the end of the season.

May have to settle for long spells on the bench this season, as Arsène Wenger has plans to bring in a new keeper.
