Mikael Silvestre, No. 18

Profile

Mikael Silvestre

Many an eyebrow was raised at the surprise signing of Mikael Silvestre - after 9 trophy-littered seasons at arch-rivals Manchester Utd, few expected the versatile defender to make the switch to the Emirates. However, after a knee ligament injury ruled him out of the majority of the 2007/08 campaign, in which the the Manchester Utd back line asserted it's dominance, Silvestre went in search of a new challenge. Arsenal, in desperate need of experienced defensive cover, snapped him up for a minimal fee, completing the first transfer between the two clubs in over 20 years. Mikael faces many challenges this season at Arsenal: proving his fitness, winning a place in the squad, and not least convincing the Arsenal faithful to take to heart a player who has so often lined up for the opposition in crunch matches over the last decade.
