Pat Rice joined Arsenal in 1964, beginning a love affair with the club that continues today. He enjoyed a distinguished playing career for the Arsenal, playing at right back, and eventually becoming club captain.
He lifted many trophies during his playing days, most notably the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1970, League and FA Cup Double in 1971 and two FA Cup wins (1971 and 1979).
He eventually moved to Watford, after playing 528 games in total for Arsenal. He retired from playing in 1984 and immediately rejoined Arsenal in 1984 as the youth team coach. He continued there until 1996 when he was appointed (briefly) caretaker manager.
When Arsène Wenger arrived, Rice became his assistant, and has since played a key role in Arsenal's success. Along with Bob Wilson, Pat Rice holds the distinction of having taken part, as player or coach, in all three of Arsenal's Doubles.
