Who?

23 year old Spanish full back Martin Montoya

Where?

Montoya is a Barcelona player, and has recently grown impatient with his lack of playing time according to the Daily Mail. On Wednesday, Montoya’s agent Juan De Dios Carrasco, was quoted as saying the player has made his mind up and is seeking a way out of the club. Carrasco told reporters;

“He will leave the club in January. There are clubs interested from England, Italy and Germany.”

 “It is not a problem for Montoya or me, not a problem for us.”

‘The decision that has been made is because we are seeing the situation and the decisions of Luis Enrique. When a player wants to leave Barca, as Montoya does, I do not think the club will oppose his departure.”

“Montoya wants to leave Barcelona and thinks the club is a gentleman and will respect the agreement that he can leave.”

Arsene, spend some money

No transfer some has been rumoured, but with a hosts of clubs reportedly in the hunt including Liverpool, Everton, and Juventus, he could fetch a considerable sum. He is however out of contract in the summer, so his fee shouldn’t raise too high as Barca will fear losing him for free.

Believability factor-5

A decent defender who is available should and probably will interest Wenger, but I don’t see where Arsenal have the need for another right back. Montoya can also play centre back, but hasn’t played their nearly enough to be considered a viable option. With Debuchy back, Chambers fit, and Bellerin growing in stature, I don’t think there is a real need for Montoya. Unless perhaps Wenger sees Chambers as a centre back for instance, but then what happens to Jenkinson when he return? Too much loose ends for me.

Game changer?

No. For the same reasons I just mentioned above an because he simply isn’t an improvement on the options we have. I’m not even sure I would select him over Bellarin (because I rate Bellerin, not because Montoya is particularly bad) and I can’t justify spending money for him.
