Who?

Benedikt Howedes is reportedly a transfer target for Arsenal according to the Sunday People.

The 26-year-old currently plies his trade in the Bundesliga for FC Schalke 04 – the club the World Cup winner has spent his whole professional career at, making 147 appearances in Germany’s top flight since 2009 and even bagging 12 goals and five assists in the process.

Believability Factor?

Very believable as Arsene Wenger is known to be partial to signing a German international – Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski.

Spend some money, Arsene

The rumour suggests that £15million will be enough to turn Schalke’s head and potentially acquire the defender – a very Arsene Wenger ‘ball park’ fee for signings.

Game Changer?

Absolutely. An experienced defender, in the peak years of his career with the versatility to play at left-back and centre-back, two positions we’ve struggled to cover this season, is exactly what the doctor ordered; if we signed Howedes, we’d have the long-term replacement for Per Mertesacker and a reliable back up to the injury prone duo of Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs.
