Who?

Stephan Lichtsteiner started his career in his home country of Switzerland spending 2001-2005 with Grasshoppers FC Zurich before securing a move to Ligue 1 outift Lille.

Impressive performances at Euro 2008 saw Paris Saint-Germain and Everton linked with moves for the full-back. However, the defender opted to move to Serie A with Lazio.

Juventus eventually signed the Swiss international after Lichtsteiner grew his reputation further with two impressive seasons at rivals Lazio.

Currently in his fourth season with the Turin-based club, Lichtsteiner has made a total of 93 appearances in Serie A – the defender has bagged a total of nine goals and an impressive 13 assists during those games.

Spend some money, Arsene

The Switzerland international is a free agent at the end of the summer, however, a cut-price deal for a couple of million may well suit all parties better – Arsenal are in dire need of defenders and the Old Lady won’t want to be out of pocket.

Believability factor

An experienced, yet cheap full-back was always going to be Wenger’s blueprint for finding some defensive cover. Having shelled out for Mathieu Debuchy, and not wanting to hinder Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers’ development, Lichtsteiner, at 30, seems an extremely obvious and viable option.

Game Changer?

Not a game changer as such, however, it would certainly be a shrewd move adding some much needed numbers and experience across a rather makeshift back four at the moment.
