In a story that won’t surprise anyone, Arsenal is being linked to a talented and highly rated young player (where have we heard that before?). The player comes in the shape of 20 year old Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte who has put himself on the the radar across Europe with some solid displays.

Who are ya?

6’2 centre halfe Laporte has been a fixture in the Bilbao XI as well as the France U-21 side. Arsenal has been following the player for quite some time, even more so in the recent months and have reportedly had several inquiries denied by Bilbao. The metro reports that the deal will for sure happen in January

Arsene, spend some money!

The player is reportedly worth £34 million, a whopping sum for a player so young. Chances are is Arsenal were to register a firm interest, Bilbao would accept a much smaller sum, but for now his clause dictates as such.

Believability factor-5

The believability of this transfer is delicately poised at the midway mark. The sum is what throws the the move in doubt for me, but the player is definitely Arsenal worthy. He is also cup tied as well which leads me to believe that any move for him may have to wait until the summer.

Game changer?

I wouldn’t go as far as to call him a game changer since he wouldn’t break into the XI, but he certainly would strengthen the overall depth in the squad. We are threadbare at the centre half position and he would present a quality and long term replacement for Mertesacker and Koscielny.
