It seems our cries for a true defensive midfielder have been heard as Arsenal is being linked with Sevilla hard man Grzegorz Krychowiak. The 6’1 Pole (no pun intended) has impressed in his first year in Spain having moved from French club Reims in the summer.

It seems Arsenal have been priced out of a deal for Carvalho and with Khedira’s situation still unknown, Wenger has turned his attention to Krychowiak. He is one of the reasons for Sevilla’s impressive start to the campaign as the club are behind Barcelona on just goal differential.

Who are ya?

The 24 year old Polish international spent much of his career in France, joining Bordeaux aged 16. From there he joined Reims eventually breaking into the first team. He joined Sevilla in the summer for £3.5m and has impressed greatly. Wenger reportedly sent scouts to watch him for both Sevilla and Poland and the player has received top marks. Arsene, spend some money!

The transfer sum is unknown, but I’m assuming Sevilla will want at least double what they paid for him. £7m is peanuts for a player that could develop into a world beater and I don’t think Arsenal should have trouble coming up with the money.

Believability factor – 7/10

Funny enough this rumour is actually more believable than Khedira and Carvalho. A quality but  relatively unknown player has Wenger written all over and if Arsenal can plug a much needed hole for a reasonable price, I’m all for it. Sevilla are flying high at the moment so it will take some doing to pry the player but a large enough sum should get our man.

Game changer?

I haven’t seen enough of the player to make that assessment, but I’m very close to saying yes. He is an improvement to Arteta and Flamini from an athletic standpoint and makes up ground really well. At 6’1 he is a much needed presence in the middle of the park Arsenal really could use.
