Arsenal star Theo Walcott has lifted the lid on the Gunners phenomenal result against Manchester United, stating the players took it upon themselves to rally behind Arsene Wenger.

Wenger was under media scrutiny after the Gunners lost consecutive Champions League group games, leaving Arsenal with a stern test to turn things around and qualify to the latter stages, but that has eased following the weekend win.

Arsenal struck three goals in the opening twenty minutes to blow Manchester United aside, securing their largest win over the Red Devils this side of the millennia and rising to second in the Premier League table.

Now, quoted in The Independent, Walcott has revealed a private meeting between the players inspired the sensational performance.

“That was all for the manager without a doubt.”

“The players spoke to each other on our own and we wanted to do this for the fans. It was the Arsenal of old, everything seemed to click. It sends a message to the Premier League we are here to be recognised no doubt.”

“That first-half we were unbelievable, no one could have dealt with us. It was the best football I have been involved in. You could sense from kick-off that the desire was there. We should be playing like that every week.”

Arsenal will need to continue the fine performances in five crucial games coming up in October, as the Gunners host Watford and Bayern Munich following the international break before travelling to Everton, Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City.
