Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed that Lukas Podolski intends to return Arsenal when his loan deal expires. Podolski joined the Nerazzurri on a six month loan deal in January, desperate for more first team action and a bigger influence.

Things haven’t gone according to plan for Lukas unfortunately though, as the World Cup winner has struggled to really make an impact in Italy. He has failed to score and only managed a single assist in his 12 appearances for the club, causing many to lose patience with the player.

After struggling for first team action at Arsenal many now suspect Podolski’s Arsenal career may be coming to an end. Inter boss Mancini has however today announced that the player would like to rejoin Arsenal when his loan expires at the end of the season.

The former Man City manager also says that the Italian press and fans have a habit of being a bit impatient when it comes to critiquing new players. In response to criticism surrounding the performances of both Podolski and fellow January recruit Xherdan Shaqiri, Mancini had this to say:

“In Italy we have a habit of not being able to wait,” he said. “Not everything can be done quickly, especially when moving from one country to another, from one club to another.

“The same applies to Podolski who I consider a great player and a great professional. That situation is a little different though, because he is on loan and wants to return to Arsenal.”

Despite Mancini’s statements, and in fact Podolski’s intentions, the player’s days at the Emirates may indeed still be numbered. He will face the same competition at Arsenal upon his return and may grow frustrated yet again.

What do you think gooners? Is there a place for Lukas at Arsenal?
