Marco Reus to Arsenal is a rumour that seems to never go away, and today picked up steam once more. According to reports from the Metro, Arsenal could be set to break the record sum paid for Mesut Ozil two summers ago to lure in his compatriot to the Emirates.
The reports credits SportBild for the news, and says Arsenal are willing to pay £48m for the player’s services, but should Wenger shell out the cash for the player?
As brilliant a footballer he is, he plays a position that can hardly be named an area of concern for Arsenal. Arsenal have an abundance of wingers, experienced and upcoming, which would make £48m quite a difficult sum to justify.
With Sanchez, Cazorla, Walcott, Welbeck, and Chamberlain already in your ranks, not to mention talented youngsters and fringe players like Campbell, Gnabry, Iwobi, and Adelaide, spending so much on another winger would be a bit senseless really.
The outcry from gooners would most likely centre around the notion that Arsenal are in need of a striker, and that £48m could have and should have went to Real Madrid for Benzema.
Or in fact to Dortmund, but for Rues’ teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It is safe to say the general consensus is that if Wenger is going to break the record at Arsenal, it should be for a position of need. More specifically, a centre forward. I’m not sure any other position would really suffice at the moment from my estimation.
What do you think gooners? Should Wenger pursue a move for Reus or focus his attention elsewhere? Assuming of course you believe these reports to begin with.
Wenger would probably put Walcott up front and be the striker we are all crying out for, with Giroud being a back up as Walcott is so injury prone, and have Reus on the wings who can play a striker role should walcott be out a long time with The Ox at the ready to occupy reus’s position, AND should the Ox get injured like he normally is, then up steps Gnabry.. I think Reus, Paco Alcacer and Lacazantte would be AMAZING buys.
Reus is not needed. If Arsenal are gonna more players they should focus on other areas. Btw Reus is not a world cup winner. He didn’t go to Brazil because of injury.
