Danny Welbeck was a surprise summer addition by most accounts. Many, myself included, were unsure of what he could add to the side but were pleasantly surprised to see him gel into the side so quickly and begin to hit the back net regularly.

He struck four goals in his first six matches, including a hat trick against Galatasaray. Tack on a brace for England in his first international break as an Arsenal player, and Welbeck began to look like a real steal. One goal in his next seven however means that the doubt will have crept back in amongstĀ  naysayers, but should gooners really be worried?

Of course not. It is easy to forget that Welbeck has only played 11 matches as an Arsenal player. 5 goals in 11 games certainly isn’t the worst goal scoring record, add 1 assist and I would say Welbeck bas been fairly useful so far. I’m not naive (extremely optimistic, but not naive), I know this tally doesn’t tell the full story. He could have and should have scored a few more goals, but “worried” wouldn’t be the word I use.

The supply hasn’t exactly been perfect for Welbeck as of late, and as soon as Arsenal find their rhythm again the chances will start flowing once more and Welbeck will get on the end of some.

His work rate and endeavor are top notch, and it isn’t as if Welbeck isn’t involved in the play at all.

If I’m being brutally honest, there were occasions where Welbeck passed up the occasion to shoot in favor of feeding teammates. On other occasions, he squandered what seemed liked a simple enough finish (Tottenham air swipe for example), so he definitely needs to be more selfish and more clinical in front of goal.

Welbeck needs to improve, but so does the team on a whole. I know for sure that both of those things will happen, and I am not worried.
