Last season Liverpool, as we all know, went frustratingly close to winning the Premier League for the first time in their delusional history.

I’m pretty sure that there weren’t too many football fans out there who were disappointed to see Manchester City pip Liverpool and Chelsea to the title. However, the truth is, Liverpool shouldn’t have even been in the title race with the squad they had.

What Brendan Rodgers was so close to achieving was nothing short of remarkable; the Liverpool gaffer had a set-up and style of play based solely on pace.

Now, it kills me to produce any pro-Liverpool content, however, I just feel that Arsene Wenger could maybe take a leaf from the Liverpool’s book from last season and apply it to this current Arsenal squad.

Things clearly aren’t working re: Arsenal’s formation, balance and set-up at the moment, therefore, it may well be worth going for the diamond midfield formation that Liverpool utlilsed last season.

What I’m about to suggest does assume the impossible that all Arsenal players are fit.

Mikel Arteta would be the natural choice at the base of the diamond with Mesut Ozil naturally filling in at the top, in the No.10 role, his best – well, only – position,

Now, I *think* this set up would allow Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere to play in the same team, either side of the diamond and may well solve the whole debate surrounding them.

Going from a five-man midfield to four would also allow us to play two up top, something we need in Oliver Giroud’s absence. With regards to who the two are? Well, take your pick from: Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolksi, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud.

You can create a partnership out of those five for all scenarios, whether you need pace, strength, all-out-attack, park the bus etc.
