Having wrapped up a deal for Petr Cech, Arsenal are said to have turned their attention to Juventus and Chile star Arturo Vidal. Various reports have suggested that the club have reached an agreement with both Juventus and the player for the Chilean to join Arsenal after the conclusion of the Copa America.

Wenger is known to be in the market for another centre midfielder, preferably a defensive minded ball winner, leaving many to question where Vidal will fit into the XI. He is more of a box to box engine and with the likes of Wilshere and Ramsey in that role, many feel Wenger would be better served pursuing an out and out ball winner.

In comes William Carvalho to the fray, with the young Portuguese ace another long term target for Arsenal. He fits the bill as tough tackling ball winner in the middle of the park, and many feel he would better serve the club. Should Arsenal sign Carvalho instead of Vidal?

There is a strong case. The argument against Vidal is valid in the sense that Arsenal possess plenty of box to box players (if you throw in Cazorla and Chamberlain aside from Ramsey and Wilshere). Vidal would stifle the progress of young English talent and would be an expensive luxury.

Carvalho on the other hand would compete with only Francis Coquelin who is around the same age (in fact Coquelin is a year older) and would create a more natural competition for places. While his inclusion in the XI could be seen as unfair to Coquelin, there would be room for the pair of them in some instances while Vidal would surely command the lion share of minutes at the expense of Wilshere or Chamberlain or Ramsey.

It boils down to Wenger and what poison he picks. What do you think gooners? Should Arsenal sign Vidal or Carvalho?

Wenger didn’t bring back Fabregas to leave room for Ramsey’s development; he’d hardly bring in Vidal now. Carvalho is in some ways the same as Coquelin, young, with brilliance shown in a small sample. That’s not to say either or both won’t become top-flight players but a more proven commodity might serve better.

Nigel DeJong comes to mind. He’s older, would not threaten Coquelin’s long-term future, and he’s nasty as they come in the middle of the park.

Another player who might fit the bill is Maxime Gonalons from Lyon. He’s a little older than Le Coq, with a significant body of work at defensive midfielder to suggest he could elevate that position at Arsenal and also aid in Coquelin’s development.

Vidal is an elite player; truly world class, but he’d be more Arteta than Viera and while there’s no reason not to add world class players, Arsenal need someone willing and eager to do the dirty work.

I think there should be competition for every place in the team. Coquelin will play better if he sees competition for the spot. Same is for striker position. Welbeck and Giroud are no competition for each other. There must be an A-class striker.

Truely I will say welcome to Carvalho because what we need is option to Coqline not to ramsey, wilshere or other box to box players in arsenal eccept if we have more experience world class defensive midfielder to bring in instead of him, I say we bring carvalho instead.Up Gunners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks boss
