Strange reports have emerged this morning, claiming AS Monaco star Joao Moutinho will request to leave the club should they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Monaco were beaten 3-1 by Valencia during the first leg of their play-off, and Arsenal are being linked with a bid should they fail to turn their fortunes around.

The player himself won’t be even be available for the second leg after suffering an injury, which for me rules out the chance of Monaco overcoming the deficit as well as the chance of Moutinho joining Arsenal. Arsenal were previously linked with the player for quite some time but that has gone cold now since the arrivals of Cazorla, Ozil, and Sanchez.

Those three for me are massive roadblocks to this rumour, and I’m not really sure where these reports have come from. Whether or not the player leaves Monaco is something different altogether, but he certainly won’t be joining Arsenal.

Predictably, Cazorla’s numbers last season were comparable to Moutinho’s, further reiterating the stance that there is not real room for the latter at Arsenal. Hate to sound like a broken record, but Moutinho is yet another case of a good player, but no room.

This is a non starter for me. What do you think gooners?
