Unusual and rather humuour reports have emerged linking either Theo Walcott or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as potential makeweights in a swap deal for Chelsea’s Petr Cech. Several sources have claimed that Mourinho has demanded one of the two English stars in return for Petr Cech.

Cech was first expected to be shipped out of the country, with Mourinho reluctant to sell to a Premier League rival. It has been revealed however that the player and his wife prefer to stay in London, and view Arsenal as the best place to achieve this as well as continue a career at the top level.

The Telegraph, among several others, have now quoted an unnamed source as saying:

“Arsene Wenger wants a top keeper from us. Well, in exchange we want Walcott or Oxlade-Chamberlain.”

“They may not be in the Arsenal team but we are convinced Jose Mourinho could make them into top players again.”

It is not everyday you get quotes from an anonymous source. It is not any day you get quotes from an anonymous source really, and as such it is difficult to ascertain how valid these reports really are. “Make them into top players again” implies they are not rated now, a far from flattering assessment of a potential new signing.

It is vital these reports are taken with a grain of salt.

Should Arsenal agree to a swap? Absolutely not. Chamberlain has grown (and is continuing to grow) into one of Arsenal’s key men and at 21 he still has ways to go. His pace and power driving forward are invaluable assets to the side and he has the potential to be an Arsenal great.

As for Walcott, in truth heĀ is the more likely swap option, however we hate to see him at our cross town rivals. He still has a lot to offer the club with his pace and movement and finishing ability so Wenger would do well to keep him. The fact remains that Chelsea have very little power over where Cech ends up.

His contract is expiring next year and the time to sell is now or risk losing him for free. They can play hardball all they please, Arsenal should not be forced into any swap.

If you give these reports any kind of credence that is.

One response to “Should Arsenal swap these two stars with Chelsea?”

I want to believe MOU is flying a kite to cee how despirate AW is to hve Chech;I don’t tink AW is bcos he is not ever known to be despirate about any particular player knoing he can convert nd develop wat he wants frm d array of talents in his team.AWHas made it known dat he has 3 world class goalkippers in Osipna,Scezny nd Martinez so if Mou tinks he can armtwist arsenal to land any of Ox or Theo I tink he shuld be told to kip his Chech.
