Conventional wisdom dictates that players from foreign leagues take at least six months to adapt when they arrive in the Premiership, if they manage to do so at all.
However, it seems that conventional wisdom just does not apply in the case of Bacary Sagna. Another enigmatic signing in the summer of 2007, with right-back seemingly being the least of our worries, but it took only a handful of games for it to become apparent that the quiet, unassuming Frenchman with Venus Williams' hairstyle was going to be a bit special.
He may not have the flash tricks of some of his counterparts, but despite the lack of obvious flair, there are few players in the league who can lay claim to being a more solid, dependable performer. Bacary Sagna is a man who knows how to get the job done, and he'll do it the quickest, easiest, most straightforward way that he can.
More of the same is the agenda for 2008/09, but if he's looking to improve anywhere it will be in the final third, adding more bite to his attacking play, though it really is hard to fault anything at all that he does.
