Gaël Clichy

Ashley Who? If the arrival of William Gallas wasn't enough to help Arsenal fans cope with the shame of Cashley's departure to Chelsea, the emergence of Gaël Clichy most certainly will have many fans positively delighted to see the back of him.

In an almost seamless transition at the back, Gaël picked up where Ashley left off with his marauding runs down the left hand side, and as much dribbling ability as any full-back in the world of football.

In 2007/08 he improved significantly on the defensive side of his game, and has now become as difficult to get past as anyone. Yet despite a his hotly debated slip-up against Birmingham City, in a match that will always be remembered for all the wrong reasons, he'll be looking to build upon what was already an incredibly successful second season.

He needs work on his crossing and final ball, but if he can add this to his game, the French national side will not possibly be able to ignore him any longer, and at 23 there's every reason he might. Another promising season awaits.
