José Antonio Reyes

Profile

José Antonio Reyes

Arsenal's record signing started the 2004/05 campaign in sparkling form with six goals in his first six games and his performance in the Community Shield when he was absolutely unplayable. It looked like we were finally seeing his potential after a slow start in his first season, or half season rather.

But during the winter months things went a bit stale for Reyes. The goals were gone, and being the victim of a cruel Spanish radio hoax seemed to be disrupting him.

However, he ended the season in good style, filling in for the injured Thierry Henry and developing a good partnership with Robin van Persie. The goals came back as he scored the winner in the North London derby and a good goal against Champions League winners Liverpool.

The Spaniard signed a new six-year deal during the summer, so despite earlier rumours of being off to Real Madrid, it seems José will be around for a while, and hopefully we can see what he's really all about.
