Julio Baptista joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the last few minutes of the 2006 summer transfer window, with former midfielder José Antonio Reyes moving in the opposite direction.
Baptista had been tracked by Arsène Wenger for some time, with Arsenal heavily linked with the Brazilian when he was at Sevilla. However, the Brazilian eventually made the move to Real Madrid instead.
Baptista's time at Arsenal was disappointing. After showing glimpses of class against Liverpool, it was expected he would make the next step up to become a more consistent Arsenal player. This was not to be, and his penalty miss in the last game of the season summed up his Arsenal career. A huge disappointment.
