Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has backed Theo Walcott to prove he is capable of playing as a centre striker. Walcott has been clamouring for a move to striker for some years now, and finally got his wish this season at Arsenal.

He has now been called up as one of four strikers in the England squad to face San Marino and Switzerland, and Chamberlain says his compatriot is more than capable of playing as a centre forward.

“I think Theo has been ready for a number of years to play there,” he said as quoted by the Express. “He’s someone I look up to and admire as a person and a player.”

“His form for club and country in his long career proves why he’s is ready, his goalscoring record proves why he is ready to play up front.”

“He is a great player and poses different threats than other strikers with his ability to run in behind. I have no doubt Theo can play up front .”

Good on Alex to support his mate, as Walcott has come under fire from some sections of support. He has yet to score a goal this season, but that is not a reflection on his ability and class. Walcott certainly has the ability with his pace and movement, and it is only a matter of time before the goals return.

His tally of 5o league goals in 208 appearances is nothing to sneeze at considering most of it was spent on the wing. In no time Theo will prove both Chamberlain and Wenger right.
