Another two points dropped yesterday, and another win for Chelsea means Arsenal now sit 11 points behind the league leaders. The club is two points from the Champions League places (could be four if United win tomorrow) and Arsenal simply have to get going and fast. Worrying margins, and a right cause for concern. Per Mertesacker is a man who is remaining calm on the situation, saying he is confident Arsenal can lift themselves back into title contention.

He praised Arsenal’s spirit and morale, believing it may be enough to take Arsenal back into the driving seat. Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said this:

“We have to take the responsibility for that, to have dropped points again, but what really makes me confident is the way that we play at the moment, because no matter what happens, we just carry on and have great potential, that just has to come out much more.”

I agree with Per and think there is time still to get back in the hunt. 8 games is no time to panic, however urgency is needed. Arsenal were much too nonchalant in some periods yesterday and allowed a  disappointingly soft goal for Hull’s second. In fact, Per was at fault for that goal so he needs to motive himself as well as his teammates in these trying times.

No time to dwell however, and Wednesday’s trip Anderlecht has to top the agenda now. They will be a tricky team to play away from home so the onus will be on Arsenal to bounce back.

One response to “THIS Arsenal confident of title challenge”

Per is the reason Arsenal will never win the title. At fault for both goals yesterday, and Costa,s goal. He’s the slowest defender in world football.
