Danny Welbeck has admitted he took inspiration from Daniel Sturridge after his fellow Englishman experienced  a change in fortunes since joining Liverpool. Sturridge too was forced out wide in his previous stints at Chelsea and City but has been on fire as a central striker for the reds. Welbeck feels he can experience a similar boost and we gooners hope for the same. The comparison has been drubbed up ever since the move was announced but never commented on by the player himself. He has now echoed these sentiments and we just hope he can now echo Sturridge’s performances and goal tally as well.

Speaking on Thursday after England’s Euro 16 qualifier win over San Marino, Welbeck had this to say:

“I looked at Sturridge, who played down the right and left at Chelsea, and saw how successful he was through the middle.”

“It was similar to my situation and I wanted that – I always wanted to be a striker.”

He is quickly coming into his own and showing he has the ability to play the role, and I think he will be much better for us than he was at United. I expect his goal tally to drastically improve and I think he can be our go-to goal getter in due time. I like what I’m seeing from Welbeck so far and think he is growing every day. He will be massive for us once we finally gel.
