Arsenal have been linked with Barcelona holding midfield player Sergio Busquets, with Wenger reportedly keen on the World Cup winner. Several reports have tipped Arsenal to agree the player’s wage demands, with the midfield enforcer apparently searching an increase on his £120,000 a week deal at Barca.

The Metro suggests that Arsenal are prepared to offer the player as much as £140,000 a week to complete the deal, in line with the club’s highest earners. There has been no word on the transfer sum, but Barca are said to be reluctant to depart with the player as Pedro is already expected to leave the club this summer.

By now we know better than to get carried away with speculation, but Busquets would be just what the doctor ordered at Arsenal.

Tall, strong, physical, technically sound, and very good in possession, Busquets would slot seamlessly in the side. He is supremely intelligent in his positioning and tactical awareness, plugging the gaps superbly and getting stuck into tackles.

He is one the better defensive midfielders in the Europe and his contribution to the side is often understated. Our very own Francis Coquelin shares many of these traits, but Busquets also boast a 6’2 frame, which would add much needed height and physical presence to the side.

The two together would shield our back line superbly I reckon, though either one could do the job. Busquets could be the long term replacement to Arteta and Flamini with his experience and winning pedigree. The 26 year old has won everything there is to win on the club level with Barcelona and could well favour a move to pastures anew.

What do you think gooners? Would Busquets be a game changer for Arsenal?
