Fantastic bit of news yesterday, as Theo Walcott came through his return from injury unscathed. The flying winger played 45 minutes for the U-21 side and reportedly hasn’t lost a bit of his pace. In a side that also included Serge Gnabry and Abou Diaby, Walcott looked sharped and said he feels good having returned to action after such a long layoff.

“It’s been a hard, long nine months and I have to say a huge thank you to the Arsenal medical team,” he told Sky Sports News. “I’ve had so much support and it’s nice to be out there. I just want to get back fit.” In reference to fear of picking up knocks, he had this to say:

“Not at all. I don’t think about picking up little knocks — I think about the game. That’s what I did tonight, and I got through fine.”

It is unfortunate he didn’t take part in today’s match, as we could have really used him to break down Hull. He will will be a massive boost for the club nonetheless. The season is still young and we would much rather have him for the long haul then rush him back prematurely.

His pace and movement is something the side has missed and I am looking forward to seeing him combine with Welbeck. The pace between those two (not to mention Chamberlain and Sanchez) will be devastating for any opposition and should help the side reach its stride and find a rhythm.

Serge Gnabry’s return is also good news as is Diaby’s steady progress. We hope those three can return to the side quickly and possible ease the injury worries.

It unknown whether or not Walcott will be in the squad to face Anderlecht on Wednesday, but he will be back soon and that is good enough news. COYG!
