Ahead of us welcoming Galatasaray to the Emirates in the Champions League, come and join me as I take a trip down memory lane and ignore the time we lost the UEFA Cup Final to Wednesday’s opposition in 2000.

Arsenal 1-0 Besiktas 27/8/14

Yep, I’m talking about our most recent victory against Turkish opposition, the important 1-0 win that saw us bag our place in the Champions League group stages.

After a nervy first-leg against Besiktas, as well as poor performances against Crystal Palace and Everton, it was important for Arsenal to start generating some positives.

Alexis Sanchez’s first goal for the club sent us through to club football’s biggest tournament, a stage we must forever remain on if we are to return to regular success and maintain our marquee signings.

Fenerbahce 0-3 Arsenal 21/8/13

After a shocking opening day Premier League defeat to Aston Villa, not many gave Arsene Wenger’s side much hope travelling to the hostile Turkish atmosphere. However, Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud showed that the Villa result was a blip rather than a sign of things to come.

Fenerbahce 2-5 Arsenal 21/10/08

Emmanuel Adebayor, Theo Walcott, Abou Diaby, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Song ensured an empathic win for Arsenal.

With Arsene Wenger’s side having bagged three goals by the 22nd minute, it was an entertaining night for us Gooners despite the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium being suggested as something of a fortress.

Let me give you the Arsenal XI that started the First Round of the European Cup Winners Cup game against the Turkish side:
