Phew! There was a point there, and I’m sure you will all agree, that I thought we’d be facing Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich yet again in the Champions League Round of 16. Thankfully, we dodged that bullet and pulled out a rather more appealing draw in Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

Monaco or Porto, I think, were the two us Gooners were hoping for, and although it isn’t how football works and we should be winning our groups, we were due a bit of luck in the Champions League.

The two-legged affair will be particularly sweet for Arsene Wenger due to the fact he spent seven years between 1987-1994 with the French outfit winning the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France during his tenure.

Anyway, as you’d expect, Twitter went suitably amusing following the Gunners’ draw.

There are no easy teams again @ dis stage, Monaco and Porto aren’t teams d Gunners will lose sleep about.
I think mother luck has smiled on us, with a full team, I don’t see why we can reach d semis dis time around.
Hope Wenger gets us a steel in DM by Jan.
    Gunners 4 life.
