I always said to myself, the weirdest day for me in football will be when Arsene Wenger retires, as he is all I know. However, when the news broke today that Thierry Henry was retiring from football, I actually felt that sense of – and apologies if this is too over the top – nostalgic emptiness I thought I was reserving for Le Professeur’s eventual exit.

Maybe it was the sheer gratitude so many fans, of all clubs, were showing across social media for having seen the great man play?

Maybe it was because I realised that, no matter how long I crossed my fingers and my toes, that was it, the last Arsenal great. No; the last Premier League great.

Maybe, and I think this is it, I didn’t fully appreciate what I was witnessing as a teenager growing up; I took Henry, and that whole ‘Invincibles’ side for granted, like it was some kind of norm.

Blimey, I’ve gone a bit depressing here, haven’t I?! Sorry for that!

Anyway, to perk things up again, have a look at how Twitter wonderfully reacted to Arsenal’s record goalscorer retiring from the beautiful game.
