Arsene Wenger has revealed the instant impression Alexis Sanchez made upon him when he saw the Chilean in action for the first-time, as he lifted the lid during an interview with Arsenal’s Soundcloud channel.

Alexis struck fame in Italy with Udinese and it was there that Arsene Wenger first became aware of his talents, continuing to track the player during his time at Barcelona and then signing him in 2014.

“It was playing for Udinese [that I first spotted him]. He was very dynamic, very direct and very straight to the point. He was one of these players where his energy and the intensity of his energy level hits you straight in the face.”

“It is strange because he catches your eye with his energy and level of commitment he puts into everything he does and that is what remained with me.”

Alexis has maintained that style of play throughout his career and it’s made him an instant success with Arsenal, as his determination, accompanied by his flair and goals, have quickly made him at fan-favourite at the Emirates Stadium.

Making his return from a two-month injury lay-off at the weekend, coming on as a second-half substitute for the defeat against Chelsea, Alexis is now in-line to feature against Burnley in this weekend’s FA Cup clash.

Following the FA Cup fourth-round, Arsenal face a wealth of important Premier League fixtures and the small matter of a clash with Alexis’ former employers, Barcelona, in the Champions League.
