Having already signed two players in this month’s transfer window, Arsene Wenger virtually ruled out adding a third but admitted he would be interested in an “exceptional” player should they present themselves.

Arsenal have secured the services of young defensive midfielder Krystian Beliek from Legia Warsaw as well the recently announced Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal, and when asked if there could be another fresh face at the Emirates, Wenger said the chances are slim.

“If I wake up in the morning and somebody stands in front of my door who is an exceptional player, I will open the door” he said. “But it looks very unlikely now.”

“Numbers-wise, we look alright now, and quality as well.”

This news will surely receive mixed reviews with some gooners holding out for dreams of Hummels and Cavani. Believe me I’m with you, but for a January window, Arsenal have done extremely well. Finding quality players is never a problem, the problem is acquiring players from clubs who have another half season of football to play and want to keep their best players for the ride.

Signing massive names in January is always going to be difficult, so Wenger has done a more than descent job in bringing in recruits. For argument’s sake, a centre back and a defensive midfielder were indeed what were most gooners were demanding. Wenger has gone out and delivered just that, so truthfully we cannot have too many complaints.

Both are primed to have promising futures and neither are cup tied, so we really cannot have asked for more from Wenger. Let’s focus on what we do have and on second half of the season. COYG!

His remarks about signing exceptional player(s) is very unfortunate. Choice of words can damage one’s reputation or even status.

Without a prolific goal poacher,we may fail to make it to the top four, this time.
