Arsene Wenger has responded to Gary Neville’s claims of arrogance and naivety, brushing aside the former Man United captain’s remarks, saying he is not concerned by outside opinions.

Sky Sports pundit Neville, speaking after Arsenal’s draw with Liverpool, said that Wenger has displayed arrogance over the past few seasons by refusing to invest in natural centre holding midfield players, instead attempting to transform attacking players into the role.

“I’ve got great respect for Arsenal as a football club. Arsene Wenger’s job is absolutely amazing,” he said on Monday Night Football.

“But I  just cannot get my head around why he would not sign players of power to assist these talented players that you’ve got to enable them to win the league.”

Neville mentioned the likes of Arteta, Ramsey, and Rosicky specifically, all players who currently play in different roles for Arsenal than they did when they first joined the club. Neville said Wenger should be buying strong and powerful defensive players to cover for the more technically gifted and talented players, as opposed to deploying attack minded players and attempting to outplay everyone.

It is the common argument against Arsenal, that not enough “steel” is present in the side, and Neville says arrogance is to blame.

“It’s a continual string of errors. It’s the one big black mark that I’ve got over Arsene Wenger these last 10 years – why he hasn’t identified the issue with these types of players in central midfield because they cannot win the league with these types of players. It can’t happen.”

“Fabregas couldn’t defend so Mourinho puts Matic or Ramires alongside him.”

“I think it’s arrogance, I really do. To think that you’re not going to adapt your team to change to impact on another team’s strengths. It’s either naive or arrogance because they keep losing this way.”
Arsene Wenger, in his post match conference, refuted these claims, saying he has proof they are incorrect, but declined to go into detail.

“I don’t know what that has to do with arrogance,” he said.

“I just try to do my job and I leave it to other people to assess my work.”

“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I could prove to you that it’s not necessarily right but let’s not go into that debate.”

“When you don’t win you’re wrong. But I think I have enough experience and intelligence to know when it’s right and when it’s wrong.”

The boss was visibly annoyed, and for me is showing signs of pressure. I do not agree with Neville’s arrogance claims, but it is clear something must be done about the current situation. Arsenal haven’t hit top gear as of yet this season, and while this is no time to panic, some serious question must be asked.

What do you think gooners? What do you make of Neville’s claims?

I Concure With G Nev. Wenger Has Become Too Arrogant @ Naive. You Can’t Personalise In Failing Every Season By Not Correcting Errors Of Decades.
