The boss has recently spoken recently about his future plans, and says he understands the frustration of some fringe players. When the term “fringe players” at Arsenal comes up, Joel Campbell is an inevitable topic. Many, myself included, are abashed at the minuscule amount of minutes he is seeing and are concerned he may seek pastures anew.

You would be forgiven to think the player is not in Wenger’s plans, with Wenger sidestepping the question on several occasions. Arsenal turned down several loan offers for the player in the summer, only for the player to continue to sit on the bench so it is a mystery as to what Wenger has in store for the player.

He shed some light on the topic earlier today, saying the player is indeed in his long term plans. While he conceded that he cannot rule out a January loan for the player but say he will be involved at Arsenal going forward.

“Yes, of course(Campbell will be involved in the future)” he said.

“But I cannot guarantee the happiness of every player. I try to make everybody happy.”

“I personally love Joel Campbell and have a big respect for him and I wish every day that he is happy from morning till evening.”

It is good to hear, but still a bit vague considering the player’s position at the moment. Campbell is a supremely gifted footballer and should be given his opportunity. I would hate to see him leave, from a fan standpoint, but so long as its just a loan and he will return I will accept it.

He needs to play and progress, Arsenal or not.
