Arsene Wenger has rated Wales as potential dark horses for the European Championships, according to Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

Ramsey is currently preparing for Wales’ first international tournament in almost six decades, with his nation tackling Slovakia tomorrow afternoon, and he told The BBC that Wenger rates his nation’s chances highly:

“The manager said we could be pretty dangerous so hopefully that proves right. He’s a wise man.”

Ramsey will be a key player for Wales, along with fellow Premier League men Ashley Williams and Joe Allen, as well as the world’s most expensive player, Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.

He’ll come up against Arsenal colleagues in the group stages, as he’s set to face Jack Wilshere and England next Thursday and Ramsey is just happy to be competing and making history.

“When the campaign started and we got those couple of wins early on I kept winding the Arsenal boys up saying ‘I’ll see you in France’. The way things were developing it was looking promising. To finally achieve it was great.’

“To go in knowing I would actually be playing in the finals… I can share that experience now with some of the players who’ve done it. I know what it’s like with other sports in the country, in the Six Nations the whole country is there for you.’

“I wouldn’t say I was jealous of rugby, but I wanted to experience that same buzz they get when that’s all people talk about.”

Ramsey is set to start for Wales against Slovakia tomorrow, in a game that will be played at 17:00 BST.
