Arsene Wenger has recalled forgotten man Francis Coquelin from loan in a bid to ease some of Arsenal’s injury struggles. Coquelin only joined Charlton in November and looked sharp for the Addicks during his short time, but has suddenly seen himself thrust back into the Arsenal picture. Injuries to Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Laurent Koscielny, and Nacho Monreal have left the squad paper thin, this before the news of Aaron Ramsey’s fresh setback.

Wenger admitted that it was indeed Ramsey’s injury that forced his hand, telling Arsenal.com;

“He (Ramsey) told me yesterday he was very positive and much better and that he would play, then he texted me late last night and said he was out.”

“I called Coquelin back from Charlton.”

Coquelin was pictured in the latest set of photos from the training ground yesterday and must be buzzing to be back with the lads. Wenger indicated that the player is there for a purpose and may even be involved today against Newcastle. Interesting turn of events and gooners will be curious to see how it turns out.

Coquelin is a versatile player who can play at left or right back aside from his favoured defensive midfield. He could be useful given the extreme lack of other options.
