Arsene Wenger yesterday revealed some positive news concerning Theo Walcott, saying the Englishman is near a full return to first team action. As we know, Walcott missed 10 months of football after rupturing his cruciate ligament in January, and made his long awaited return on November 1st against Burnley. He then came on as a substitute against Swansea eight days later, but has since been sidelined again with a niggling groin injury.

Tomorrow’s clash with Newcastle will come too soon for Walcott, but from the looks of things the player isn’t too far off. Wenger had this to say yesterday in his press conference;

“The signs are quite good.”

“He has had two days of training now but he now lacks competition and fitness to come back to a good level.”

Fantastic bit of news for Arsenal, as Walcott is an integral part of the side when fit. It is easy to forget he was the side’s top scorer two seasons ago and if not for his injury last year he may have improved upon his tally last year. His blistering pace is so vital for the way Arsenal play and causes all sorts of problem for defenses.

Walcott is Arsenal’s forgotten man at the moment (at least one of them) having missed so much action but I’m glad to see Theo back among the lads. Arsenal could sure use a spark and if that happens to come in the form of Walcott I’m all for it.
