Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has announced that Mesut Ozil was set to train with the German national side on the day it was discovered that the Gunners’ record signing had torn his knee ligaments.

It is believed that the German international suffered the injury during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League but played through the pain to finish the game.

Wenger said: “When he arrived with the German national team, they didn’t think it was a lot at the start.

“He was supposed to practice on Wednesday but, in the end, he said that wasn’t possible for him.

“Then he had a scan and it was bad news. We have our own specialist giving us his opinion after reading the scan and examining Mesut.

“We will follow our own recommendations.”

Le Professeur has accepted that he will be without Ozil for at least two months.
